Finding Who We Are

“The truth is incontrovertible, malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end; there it is.” ~ Winston Churchill

I’m going to go out on a limb here and just say it: the “popular kids” are just better liars. There it is. Sometimes, the cool kids grow up and along the way to adulthood, they become kinder, wiser, and better friends, parents, siblings, and citizens. Sometimes, though, they grow up into larger versions of their same, boring, selfish, image-conscious selves, and teach their kids their warped sense of values. Then yet another generation of “cool kids” enters the world.

I understand, many of you may consider yourselves “cool kids”, as well as your darling children. Be patient with me, this post is not about throwing stones. 🙂 Unfortunately, as I am currently in my 39th year, I have learned repeatedly and painfully that for some people, image is all they have. I have tried to serve the “image god” myself a few times and it always fails me. The reality of who I am, and who YOU are, is all bundled up in our good and bad, our polished and our raw, our failures as well as our triumphs, and ultimately in our progress toward improvement or debasement through our lives.

However, who we REALLY, truly are, what we were meant to be and do, and our purpose is bound up in something else, or I should say, in SOMEONE else entirely…

“BLESSED (HAPPY, fortunate, prosperous, and enviable) is the man who walks and lives not in the counsel of the ungodly [following their advice, their plans and purposes], nor stands [submissive and inactive] in the path where sinners walk, nor sits down [to relax and rest] where the scornful [and the mockers] gather. But his delight and desire are in the law of the Lord, and on His law (the precepts, the instructions, the teachings of God) he habitually meditates (ponders and studies) by day and by night. [Rom. 13:8-10; Gal. 3:1-29; II Tim. 3:16.] And he shall be like a tree firmly planted [and tended] by the streams of water, ready to bring forth its fruit in its season; its leaf also shall not fade or wither; and everything he does shall prosper [and come to maturity]. [Jer. 17:7, 8.] Not so the wicked [those disobedient and living without God are not so]. But they are like the chaff [worthless, dead, without substance] which the wind drives away. Therefore the wicked [those disobedient and living without God] shall not stand [justified] in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous [those who are upright and in right standing with God]. For the Lord knows and is fully acquainted with the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly [those living outside God’s will] shall perish (end in ruin and come to nought).” ~ Psalm 1 Amplified

The Truth, after all, is not only some nebulous, fluid term we can redefine and fiddle with as so many people try to do. The TRUTH, is a person that we can know and in knowing Him, we each become more and more of who we are meant to be. Of course, it’s easy to use the “cool kids” as a rallying point or thing to rebel or fight against. Yet, deep inside us all, cool kid or not, there is a place that yearns for Truth, Love, Peace, and Acceptance. Let me again remind you, as well as myself, that those things for each one of us can be found in Jesus Christ, the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

“IN THE beginning [before all time] was the Word (Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself. [Isa. 9:6.] He was present originally with God. All things were made and came into existence through Him; and without Him was not even one thing made that has come into being. In Him was Life, and the Life was the Light of men. And the Light shines on in the darkness, for the darkness has never overpowered it [put it out or absorbed it or appropriated it, and is unreceptive to it].” ~ John 1:1-5
